Mornington Peninsula Alpaca Breeders

MPAB, most likely the first of the locality groups, sprang to life in 1998.

It was a lively, active group of breeders from the Mornington Peninsula, very quickly becoming a close-knit structured marketing group, that put ideas into action.

Members were rostered to run promotions at local Craft Markets, Wine Weekends and Tourism Events and within a couple of years ran a highly successful Alpaca Expo at the Red Hill Showgrounds.

15 years on, MPAB is still going strong, has its own Website and continues its involvement in the promotion of alpacas at the Red Hill Market and other special Peninsula Events. MPAB members  are  the much-appreciated “Hospitality Team” that assists at the Red Hill Show. We also run our annual fleece collection, “Harvest Festival” early each year, inviting anyone with alpacas to bring their fleeces for sorting, baling and subsequent delivery to the pre-selected buyer which to date, has been AAFL.

While many of our original members have retired or have moved on to bigger properties in other parts of Victoria, we have been fortunate to grow and maintain a stable and enthusiastic membership over the years. We continue to welcome new breeders.

We meet every two months at our farms, sometimes incorporating a farm walk, other times a guest speaker or a demonstration. One of the most important features of our group is the support given so freely, the friendship and the chance to chat openly about issues and problems we might have encountered on our properties.

Our Annual Christmas Get-together has always been a must. We go somewhere different each year, and take turns to do the organising involved. This year we booked the Linden Tree restaurant at Lindenderry of Red Hill and had a lovely night, enjoying each other’s company over a very scrumptious mea in beautiful surroundings.
